Week 5 - Jake

This week consisted of multiple challenges, these being:

  • Building a base lighting and creating a post process volume
  • Creating rain particles to add immersion towards the windows and mask the outside.
  • The dilemma of restarting the level or not.
  • The level layout

Building the base lighting wasn't as bad as I originally thought it would be however the problem within it became the fact that we have 3 windows on three different areas/axis's. And each window wants a beam of moonlight to be streamed through. The main hall, study and lounge. Yet the layout we currently have does not allow this at all. And in turn brings me to challenge our current layout more than i would like to.

At the moment the structure is walk straight turn left, walk straight, turn left, walk straight. It works, but its not a stunner. This also does not create a realistic representation of the a house. Why would the study be next to the dining room? As well as there isn't any corridors or believability in rooms, which you cannot access, but lead further down the house. E.g the kitchen door etc etc This needs a complete re haul.

Finally the dilemma of starting again plagued our team for a few days. We worry that at the end, we shall have 3 mediocre rooms as the output does not meet the required input.. Where as if we were to change the idea to a museum esq idea with one grand room this would work even better. Yet after consultation we have decided under the time we have we cannot start again. This would require new modular kits and in turn make many textures and time currently spent redundant. Alongside the fact that once assets are actually placed with the level most of the panic shall vanish. The only negative I can place so far is that there is a distinct lack of entertainment. We need more magician props! The attic is more than likely going to be cut and in turn our narrative. However if we can work hard enough and create a small attic, the idea will still work.

Memo: Add lighting and particles captures! (less intense in engine)
