OTM Aaron Cunliffe Week 5

I began this week with some fresh assets and decided to model the chairs for the dining room table.
Chairs and other pieces of basic furniture aren't things that I would particularly go out of way to model but for the project I haven't been concerned with modelling the more 'boring' elements of our house; thus far I have created things like skirting boards and stools so I was already well into the furniture creating process.
The dining chairs marked a welcome, new work flow for me in the process of creating furniture.

I discovered a brush set that specialised in creating rococo style carving work and allowed me to add tertiary detail onto my main geometry that i could later bake onto my low poly model; this cutout a lot of work and speed up my working process on each prop and removed alot of the headaches associated with spending hours sculpting small details in zbrush and having to postpone making real progress with the overall prop.
For this prop in particular I created a padded fabric seat cover using a combination of S2BM and tilable textures for the cushion to add contrast with the dark leathers of my other chairs.
I textures the rest of the chair with using substance painters materials and combined them with my normal and curvature maps to add wear and surface texture.

This week I have decided to stop creating new assets and spend some time polishing and ironing any creases I currently have with my existing assets; from he first to the most current.
I have been multitasking with my assets and working on a few at a time. while this workflow has its benefits for me and helps me stay focused I realized that i have been too hasty with completing assets and moving onto new assets before they were completely finished and ready for me to import into the level.
A number of my assets had their textures and materials complete but lacked the finishing touches and I didn't want to make any more progress until I was up to date and had a range of complete assets that I wouldn't have to finish down the road towards the hand in date; I knew that if I left the finishing touches last I would have a long period of correcting a fixing each asset which would have been a long and repetitive process.
This week I have managed to finished All of my current assets except for a few that need decals like my gramophone.

Despite theses assets being finished I may give them as well as any other assets I create a once over to satisfy the perfectionist in me; i usually receive the most criticism with my textures and I want to make sure I have demonstrated a response to that criticism.

We had our scheduled group presentation in the first lesson and had to rush to place the assets we had been working on over the weekend into the level for feedback and in doing so managed to break the lighting of the level which required us to have our review late.
This wasn't the best start to the week and optimally we should have uploaded work the week before and had more than 10 minutes to prepare our level for feedback however things like this can happen and without detracting responsibility from the group we are generally on schedule apart from what we actually had to show in todays lesson.
Overall we received some positive feedback and our tutor mainly highlighted the lack of props and lighting issues as things we had to concentrate on over the next few weeks.
