Rose week 1

Week {1} 10/03/17  Rose

I have looked for visual inspiration in movies such as ‘’The Illusionist’’ and ‘’the Prestige’’ as well as ‘’Vampire’s assistant’’ to see how Victorian times entertainment looked like and how scene, mood was set as well as the environment. The agreement with the group concentrated on Illusions and magical entertainment with the magician as the main character and inspiration. We chose realistic style for this project. Also In the group discussion, many ideas emerged, mainly speaking stage, and some back stage illusion rooms etc. for the sole purpose of player’s exploration and interaction, a sort of Illusionists mad house, where each corner and room has its own story to tell and which will allow to engage the gamer.

The ideas I have gathered based on the discussion on Monday, was about a theatre space and other aspects that were divided between the rest of the group members. I wanted to look into the stage space, decorations as well as lighting, the items that were associated with people of that era and mood that came along with it, something that would give off the clear feeling of the style and the story behind it.

I have considered architecture, things like pillars, fabric, walls, lights, props and personal belongings people could have left behind.  My first aim was to create a rough idea of the space and the stage.

I have then looked onto things like  chandelier and the type  of lighting used, the group idea was to add a fabric at the ceiling, and the fabric ribbons spreading across from chandelier.Taking into account that in Victorian times the most popular source of light was gas lamps, or candles. I have also paid closer attention to the fabric used  everywhere  and  the pillars that supported the construction.

I had to also work on the main stage idea that would allow me to clarify the surrounding.

which led me to quick sketch of some pillars ideas.

  1. Nice use of referencing there rose and good application in the pillar designs. Looking forward to see how you can take this further in the house, with the fabric and textures as well now!
