Probably a little too dark and decrepit but if we were to bring it back to a more lived in look than destroyed, maybe having the ray of light hitting the book where the magician signed his soul into it? The actual structure of the attic itself should be more of a slight maze and not a clear cut line to the seat and book. Maybe in the form of a L or T? So by turning the corner yo then are greeted by this final view? As this will be the final stage, it needs to add up and become the focal point.
